The Belize Zoo, often called “the world’s best little zoo,” is a unique wildlife experience located about 1 hour drive from Vanilla Hills Resort, set within a beautiful tropical savanna and dedicated to native Belizean wildlife and conservation.
Your day begins with pickup at the resort followed by a scenic drive east through Belize’s countryside to reach the zoo. Once there, you’ll explore the winding shaded pathways at your own pace or with a knowledgeable guide, getting up close to over 150 rescued and rehabilitated animals that represent dozens of species native to Belize. You may see jaguars, tapirs (Belize’s national animal), howler monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, parrots, and many other mammals, birds, and reptiles in settings designed to reflect their natural habitats.
Most guests spend about 1.5–2 hours walking the grounds, though you’re welcome to take a little longer to enjoy the animals and take photos. After your visit, you will return to Vanilla Hills Resort in the early afternoon.
