Description

The site rests right in San Ignacio town high above the banks of the Macal River and is strategically located to overlook the confluence of the Macal and Mopan River.

The site was a palatial, hilltop home for an elite Maya family, and though the most major construction dates to the classic period, evidence of continuous habitation has been dated to as far back as 1200 BCE. This makes Cahal Pech one of the oldest recognizably Maya Sites in Western Belize. It is a collection of 34 structures, with the tallest temple
being about 25 meters in height, situated around a central acropolis. In the 9th century the site was abandoned for unknown reasons.[

You will get picked up at the Lodge and after a 15 minutes drive you will arrive at the Maya Site.

Since this tour is just 2 hours, it is a perfect combination with Xunantunich or you just take the time and visit the Iguana Project or the Chocolate Demonstration after exploring the Site.
