Description

This tour is nothing for the fainthearted. It might even be the most challenging cave tour you can do in Belize.

The tour company will pick you up at Vanilla Hills Lodge and after a 60 minutes ride to Blue Hole National Park you will start with your big adventure. The first part is a 50 minutes Jungle hike leading to the entrance of the cave. The hike is considered moderate with some small slopes. Right after entering the cave you have to rappel 15 ft and start your journey into “Xibalba,” or The Underworld. You have to traverse through the large chambers of the cave, sliding down mud ramps and scrambling along rocks. Inside the main cave, you will find yourself surrounded by an amazing crystal cave that was used by ancient Maya shamans (priests) for ritual ceremonies performed thousands of years ago.

Crystal Cave is one of the most impressive dry caves due to it’s countless formations with crystalline quartz throughout the cave’s floor and walls. This cave will leave you wonder-struck with its huge stalactites & stalagmites, flow stones, rock columns, crystalline formations & Maya artifacts. Witness age-old evidence of rituals & ceremonies such as potteries, beads, fire pits, charcoal ash & skeletal remains calcified in the limestone floor.
